The Tools and Techniques Behind Your Recovery

Pelvic floor physical therapy is more than Kegels. At Pelvic Symphony PT, we use a combination of specialized techniques to find what's driving your symptoms and build a path back to the activities and life you enjoy. From hands-on treatment like dry needling and pelvic floor assessment to movement retraining, birth preparation, and low pressure fitness, every session is tailored to your body, your goals, and where you are in your recovery.

Dry Needling

Dry needling is a technique we routinely use to target irritated or tense muscles. It also benefits in improving blood circulation to support healing, help calm the nervous system, and reset overactive muscles that are difficult to relax.

Low Pressure Fitness

Low Pressure Fitness  is using a “vacuum” technique to reduce pressure in the body. Hypopressive means “decrease in pressure”. Many pelvic floor conditions and pain in the back can be due to too much pressure in the body. Low Pressure Fitness was created by Tamara Riel and Piti Pinsach involving posture, fascia, and exercise built on the hypopressive technique. We use Low Pressure Fitness in postpartum rehab, to improve pelvic floor issues such as leakage and prolapse, athletic performance, sexual dysfunction, as well as pelvic and back pain.

Birth Preparation

We provide 1:1 sessions for birth preparation involving both birthing and supportive partners. We discuss various exercises and techniques to help you feel more confident going into birthing your child with a pelvic floor physical therapy approach. We instruct in perineal releases as well as pushing coordination in various positions to decrease risk of tearing. We provide exercises that prep the movements the pelvis requires during birth. We also discuss ways your partner can be an active participant and advocate for you during birth.

Pelvic Floor Assessment

A pelvic floor assessment is valuable in helping us determine what is causing your pelvic floor symptoms and gives us an insight on how hard your pelvic floor muscles are working and which areas of the body are not working enough. We ALWAYS ask for consent prior to assessment and treatment. We will provide release work to any muscles we find are tense and instruct in pelvic floor awareness to avoid issues in the future. We strive to help you feel comfortable and respected during the entire session.

Movement Training

Exercise and movement training is a big part of what we do for pelvic floor physical therapy. Many pelvic floor issues are related to other areas of the body not working as optimally as they should or mismanaged pressure in the system. We begin with exercises that establish a firm foundation including posture, breathing, and muscle awareness then build by progressing exercises in all planes of movement so you can confidently return to all athletic and daily activities.
